Developing
Unrelenting Willpower

by Kevin Hogan

Page 8

Willpower Exercise
Stand up straight. Lift your arms out to sides at shoulder height. Keep breathing steadily. That's it. Just stay in this position for 10 minutes. What seems like an easy exercise will be really hard to do. Your mind will keep telling you to lower your arms, to give up, to fail.

Prove to yourself, that you CAN do it. Prove to yourself and the others that you ARE in control of your destiny and your future. Imagine that your very life depends on it. Go ahead and do it right now and we'll discuss the rest later.

Well how did it feel? Hurt like heck huh?

This is a simple but powerful because it is painful...metaphor.

I want you to realize that there is very little you can't achieve in this world. You can acquire anything if you will just put your mind in COMMITMENT MODE.

If you didn't have enough strength to do it today, don't worry you'll do it tomorrow. Just try to hold your hands a little bit longer every day until you will be able to hold for 10 minutes. In the long run you achievement will be even greater, because you had to fight multiple battles, while the rest just did it once.

Visualize the Result
Another way to stay focused on your goal and to keep motivated is to visualize an actual result. You have to imagine how you will feel after your task is completed. If you don't want to organize your desk, imagine how great it will look after you clean it, how great you will feel while sitting at it. Imagine running you finger on the shiny, clean, polished surface. Imagine how much easier it will be to breath when you are not surrounded by the piles of documents. You might need to practice a few times before you will be able to visualize things that clear. But don't worry, you'll get it.

There is a quick way to check how good you can visualize things.

Don't worry; I won't make hold your hands up for ten minutes again.

I'm not that mean. This will be a lot easier.

DO THIS!
IT IS VERY COOL...

Visualization Exercise
Close your eyes and hold your arms out in front of you.

Imagine that a huge helium-filled balloon is tied to your one arm and a big bucket of water to the other. Focus hard on your arms while keeping your eyes closed. After about a minute, open your eyes.

Did you do it?

Have you noticed how one arm was higher than the other? The further your arms are apart (up and down), the better your focus. Similarly, you can visualize what you want, and subconsciously, you can do it!

To make your willpower training more effective, pick a healthy habit you would like to adapt in your daily routine...something you were planning on doing but never had time for it or enough self-discipline to follow through.

Like quitting eating late at night, (I just had some chocolate...) doing you morning exercise or finding a couple hours a day to work on achieving your goal.

Make sure you don't skip a single day. Explain to yourself, why you want to become a healthy, strong-willed person. How does that little change in your routine will make your life better?

Keep refreshing all the reasons in your memory every day.

What are some other things you can do?
