How to Ask Great Questions, Part 1
...in Light of Magic, Persuasion and Memes

by Kevin Hogan

Read this article twice. It will be posted through Saturday, then will be removed for inclusion in my next book. This is powerful persuasion technology in action...on many levels. You might want to just read it through the first time, then take notes the second.

"Kevin, is marketing the face of magick?"

My mind immediately jumped to, "is persuasion the face of magic?"

It was one of several interviews I gave today...it was certainly the most intriguing question I was asked.

In the context of marketing, persuasion is the "end game."

When a marketing genius asks you a question like this, your complete pattern of thought is interrupted and changed.

And of course the question changes your beliefs and your answers to the question....the asker's intention alters the mind of the askee, me...if there is a question. The question changes the road signs and highways in the brain....

One question filled with intention is worth a chapter of sentences on just about any subject.

Ben Mack, author of Poker Without Cards, asked me that question today. Ben Mack has made a lot of money for a lot of companies. (Marketing) He's someone who doesn't think like... anyone... I've ever talked with. But I'll come back to Ben later. I want to talk about his question:

"Kevin, is marketing the face of magick?"

Now "magic" and "magick" are very different.

What is Magic?

"Magic" is going to see David Copperfield at the MGM Grand Theatre and suspending belief upon agreement when you buy the ticket. It is the magician's intention to amaze, to fool, to entertain, to mystify, to baffle, to excite and entice...."Magic" is Lance Burton and his six beautiful assistants that distract with their beauty and deceive with their skill at making illusions happen themselves. "Magic"...is the little sleight of hand magic I can do, that magician Lee Freed has been good enough to teach me over the years.

What else about magic can you incorporate into asking questions that make sales...that draw attention in marketing...
