Changing People?
Is it possible?
Is that even a good thing?
It certainly can be.
People tend to vanish into their environment.
They enter the military and the next time you see them, they have changed.
Is that good?
I think it probably is, in most cases.
They join a new church and they change more slowly.
Why?
They aren't in the church and around it's members 24/7. Over time, the person blends in and becomes part of the picture.
A good thing?
I think it probably is, in most cases.
The girl hangs out with a new boyfriend.
One year later?
The two become more like each other.
A good thing?
Sometimes...depends on what shifts and why. People always wonder how they don't see their old girl friends or buddies a year after they have been dating or married.
What happened?
They changed.
People can and are changed by other people. It happens every day.
It happens without intention and it happens intentionally.
Complete accident. Other times it happens with 100% "purpose."
Can you change people if they don't move in with you? Can you change them if they don't go to your church or enter the military?
Yes.
The lessons from church, the military and the close relationship are obviously significant.
But these are unique experiences for someone. You aren't the military. You can only have one close relationship and you only are going to one, or fewer churches...
So the causal element needs to be something you can control...and it is a trait. It is the one characteristic of people of great influence.
What is the characteristic of people who successfully change people?
How do you develop it?
How do you master it?
Is it the only important characteristic?
